          Jessica Tandy was an English-American actress who had a successful career in film, television, and theater. She was born on June 7, 1909 in Stoke Newington, London, England.

          She began her career in the theater, appearing in productions of Shakespeare and other plays. She made her film debut in 1939 and went on to appear in over 100 films, including The Birds (1963), Cocoon (1985), and Driving Miss Daisy (1989), for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress.

          She also won two Tony Awards for her work on Broadway. She died on September 11, 1994 in Easton, Connecticut.
